Artist Statement:
This year I’m showing ironwork, both ornamental and functional. For sale and as inspiration to come to Prospect Hill Forge and learn to work iron yourself.

I will also be showing my Percussive Drawings, described thusly:

This ongoing series of near-monochrome abstracts utilizes movement and æsthetic consideration derived from european & asian martial arts, calligraphy and smithing.

The drawings are executed with natural charcoal made by the artist.The use of this medium allows him to push beyond the limits of conventional charcoal to develop an unusual warmth, size and spontaneity of stroke.

Carl West holds a BFA in Sculpture and Metalcraft from Carnegie-Mellon University.
