Artists Statement / 2003:
I have no choice. I paint because I have to paint. I’ve been making paintings since I was in high school. College trained as an abstract expressionist, I was encouraged to ignore the rules. My work has evolved from that lack of structure, justified only by its mere existance. The paintings have a life of their own, never stagnant, always arriving, but never really landing. In a womans world of chaos and disorder, paint brings a clarity to my perceptions and relationships, though merely leading me to yet another path of inquiry, each piece manifesting some sort of transition or passage from one moment to another.

Textural, patinaed surfaces are a reflection of having endured the tests of time. Yet the uncommon integration of forms and unexpected shapes jutting off the edges of the canvas or panels illustrate an openness to surprises, operating somewhere between the familiar and trickery.

My purpose, simply stated is that I have none. I like to think of my work as having a unique vocabulary, with no conclusions, just conversations. However, they are what they are.
