Painting and mixed media

I was initially trained as a painter, graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1973, and later went to graduate school to study psychology and then on to psychoanalytic training. I gave up painting for many years after becoming a clinician and later returned to the visual arts in 2005. I feel the two fields have much in common. A disciplined intuition and openness to surprise are essential to both. I try to capture movement, gesture, and moments in transition in my painting. I am drawn to the ephemeral, and like to try to create order out of chaos. I find myself resisting certainty and absolutes in my visual work just as I do in my work as a psychotherapist. I work in a variety of media creating abstract work and landscapes of beloved places.

My work has been in recent juried shows at Danforth Museum, Concord Art Association, and Montserrat 301 Gallery.
